Saintliness and Holiness

October 15, 2018

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

—Luke 9:23

If anyone should wonder what I mean by godliness, saintliness, holiness, I'll explain. I mean a life and a heart marked by meekness and humility. The godly soul will not boast nor show off. I mean reverence. The godly man will never take part in any religious exercise that shows disrespect for the Deity. The cozy, cute terms now applied to God and Christ will never pass his lips. He will never join in singing religious songs that are light, humorous or irreverent. He will cultivate a spirit of complete sincerity and discuss God and religion only in grave and reverent tones.

Further, I mean separation from the world unto God in an all-out, irrevocable committal. The holy man will not envy the world, nor will he imitate it or seek its approval. His testimony will be, "I am crucified unto the world and the world unto me." He will not depend upon it for his enjoyments, but will look above and within for the joy that is unspeakable and full of glory.

In short, any true work of God in the churches will result in an intensified spirit of worship and an elevated appreciation of the basic Christian virtues.... It will make men Christlike, will free them from a thousand carnal sins they did not even know were sins before. It will free them from earthly entanglements and focus their whole attention upon things above. PON092-093

Lord, help me live a life of virtue, forsaking all else, so I can experience freedom and communion with You. Amen.

A Christian Virtue

October 9, 2018

A Christian Virtue

Let brotherly love continue. Hebrews 13:1

I am being very frank about this and I hope I am being helpful: Do not ever say you are not right with God because you like some people better than others!

I believe you can be right with God and still not like the way some people behave. It is easy to love those who are friendly; others rub us the wrong way or perhaps they cut us down.

The writer to the Hebrews has appealed to us as Christian believers to "let brotherly love ...

A Real Hero

October 1, 2018

Last Thursday (27th) marked the 76thanniversary of the Death of Signalman First Class Douglas Munro. Munro is the Coast Guard’s only Medal of Honor recipient.  He received it as a result of his actions at the Battle at Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater, during World War II.  Unknown to most people, most of the landing craft (and some of the larger vessels) used in WWII were crewed by Coast Guard Personnel.

Munro lead a team of landing craft (called Higgins Boats) that were shuttling Marines...

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

September 24, 2018

From Thursday through Saturday this past week, I have attended the State EMS Conference.  This was my first time in many years as an attendee.  Normally my role is that of “the guy saying a prayer Friday morning”.  Don’t get me wrong, I am very honored to be asked year after year to give the invocation, and to remind the people across the state how important they are to their communities, but I have to admit, I am more excited about attending as an EMT myself.

I was talking to a guy an...

Uncle Gordon

September 5, 2018

We just found out that our Uncle, Gordon Brown died.  He was Bev’s dad’s younger brother.  Of her dad’s generation, only Gordon’s wife, our Aunt Jackie is still alive.  I have often mentioned to people how much I love being a Brown.  Not only are the Brown’s some of the nicest people you would ever meet, but 99.99999% of them follow Jesus.  Sure, they are generally over educated, but I don’t hold that against them.  They are just really great people to be around!

Like many in The...

During Times Like This

August 27, 2018

Bev is still pretty sick but is SLOWLY getting better.  Your prayers and encouragement are greatly appreciated.

During times like this, people often ask why is God doing this?  The simple answer is: He is not.  God did not make Bev sick.  He has struck people down with disease in the past, but He made it abundantly clear that it was Him and why.  This was a very rare and extreme occurrence.

God did allow this to happened and it is a great mystery where Bev got mono.  What is not know...

Amen or Ouch

August 20, 2018

Most of the time when I read A.W. Tozer, I do not know whether to say “Amen” or “Ouch”.  You decide:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling. Ephesians 1:18

Revival and blessing come to the church when we stop looking at a picture of God and look at God Himself! Revival comes when, no longer satisfied to know about a God in history, we meet the conditions of finding Him in living, personal experience.

Conversely, revival ca...

"....but you..."

August 13, 2018

I read a phrase in Jeremiah this week that really hit me.  It was a simple two-word phrase, but for me, it hit me right in the heart.  Jeremiah 1:16 says “…but you…”  God is revealing His plans for Jeremiah, and advising him that His people, Israel has turned its back on God, they serve other gods, following after the ways of the people around them.  Just doing their own thing.  Through Jeremiah’s message the people are going to have one more chance, but God already knows and is tel...

God's Initiatives

July 23, 2018

It has not been such a great week at the Killion home.  Bev is still not feeling well, and we are not sure what is going on.  Her physician is working with us, but we have not nailed it down.  Appreciate your prayers.  Yesterday (Saturday) we marked 28 years of marriage (quietly).

Go out from your land,

your relatives,

and your father’s house

to the land that I will show you.—Genesis 12:1

The most dramatic changes in your life will come fro...

Jesus is our Great High Priest

July 16, 2018

What a great week!  We got to meet our new granddaughter, Kelseigh Jean Mililani Funk, and welcome Efrain Frias into the family.  It was a typical hectic wedding week and we did not get as much time to spend with any one person as we would like to, but that is typical.  It was nice to get home Monday evening (to the heat), in spite of the challenges waiting here for us.

The Life Journals have us reading Hebrews this week and I was once again impressed with how the author explained...
