Preach

July 3, 2018

If you are using the Life Journals, you read 2 Timothy along with the rest of us.

If you are not using it, you might have read it anyway!

2Timothy always impresses me because Paul indicates that he is aware that he is about to die.  We know he was correct.  This was the last letter he was going to write.  I am not going to go on about “If you knew you were about to die, what would you tell the people you love” thing.  My hope is that you are already telling them.  However, in his last letter, we have Paul’s answer to that question.  He wraps everything up in the final chapter by saying; Preach the word – no matter what.

I am aware that only a few of us are called to preach, and there are as many different “calls” on people’s lives as there are people reading this letter.  So please humor me for a moment and for the duration of the rest of this letter substitute “preach” with that call God has placed on your life.

Just preach.  Whether you are prepared or not – PREACH

Whether people listen or not – PREACH

Whether you suffer because of it or not – PREACH

     People are watching – PREACH

     God is watching – PREACH

Fulfill your ministry, fight the good fight, finish the race, keep the faith.  The Lord has your reward and is waiting to award you one day.  Until then:

     PREACH!

What Are We Suppose To Do In A World Gone Crazy?

June 25, 2018

“In an insane world, the sane man must appear insane.”                                 Spock

No doubt about it, this world has gone crazy.  We call wrong right and right wrong.  We celebrate things we should be ashamed.  If you think it is bad now – just you wait.  It will get worse.

So, what are we (Christians) supposed to do?

First and foremost, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.  If, as the Bible says; “He is the author and finisher of our faith.”  (Heb 12:2) and if ...

Live Right or Die

June 4, 2018

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord... that they may rest from their labours. Revelation 14:13

We modern Christians seem to be a strange breed in many of our ways. We are so completely satisfied with earthly things and we enjoy our creature comforts so much that we would just rather stay on here for a long, long time!

Probably most of us do not tell God about that kind of desire when we pray. But I have made a practice of writing many of my earnest prayers to God in a little book...

The New Guy

May 21, 2018

I HATE being the “new guy”.

As you know, I have started running on the ambulance again recently, which makes me the new guy.  It is not that I do not know what I am doing, I do not know HOW THEY are doing it now.  The service is completely different since I was running before.  In fact, I am in Field Training.  I have a list of things that I have to get signed off before they will turn me loose on all of the county’s sick and injured.  Which is probably a good thing.

One t...

Packages in the Mail

May 7, 2018

Bev and I are attending the wedding of one of our nieces (and our new nephew) in California.

We will be doing something different at church this morning.  We will be showing a video of Dave Ramsey and the last lesson in his Financial Peace University classes.  We are not doing it as advertising, it is good, Biblical teaching.

Recently, I received a package in the mail offering a new service to the local church.  Help with reaching out to assist our neighbors in need.  The help was not a new...

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

April 30, 2018

Wow!  What an amazing week!  394 miles with 149 new friends from San Antonio to Ft Worth Texas.  Apparently I properly trained because I was able to do the entire ride, (except for 12 miles when I developed a mechanical problem), and was not sore.

I recently heard the song Great Is Thy Faithfulness, on my “radio” and was reminded that years ago, I walked into my Senior Pastor Harry Galloway’s office before the service.

Harry:  “I hear you mom is with us today, what special song are ...

Deep Disappointment

April 2, 2018

We have all experienced deep disappointment (if you have not – you will).  Some of us have seen things and people who we placed the fate of our lives on, only to see them dashed to the ground.  Those people have an idea what the Disciples must have felt.  On the one hand there had been hope.  The (illegal) trials by the council were going in Jesus’ favor – until He told them He was God.  Herod and Pilot were juggling Him back and forth because there was not solid evidence against Him.  ...

Galatians

March 19, 2018

We just finished reading through Galatians in the LIFE Journals this week.  In it Paul compares a life spent trying to “make it” by obeying the Law, and a life spent following Jesus.

The life spent following Jesus is a life spent completely differently than trying to live by the Law.  Because of what Jesus did in paying the penalty for all the times we failed to keep the Law, it allows us to focus on others.  We can face life with confidence and having the confidence that we are going to...

The Beginning of the Holy Year.

March 5, 2018

One of the good things about March is that Spring is right around the corner.  The fact that winter reported aboard six weeks late notwithstanding. – Stupid Groundhog!

Not far behind Spring is Easter.  The death and resurrection of Jesus is pivotal to our faith.  So much so that God put it at the beginning of the Holy Year:

Exodus 12:1-3 (ESV)
1  The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2  “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first mont...

Loving Someone

February 21, 2018

During the week, I bring Trip and Duke to work with me.  When Jackie comes into the office, she is smothered in love by Duke.  Trip manages to get his butt scratched, which he loves.  When Gary Johnson comes in on Wednesdays to clean, Trip is all over him and Duke sits back and watches.  How many of you cat lovers have been presented with a gift of a mouse at your doorstep?

How we love is as important as being loving.  Gary Chapman describes five way that people using to express and receive lo...
