HE HAS THEM RIGHT WHERE HE WANTS THEM

June 27, 2016

When Marine Colonel “Chesty” Puller was advised that his unit was surrounded and in danger of being overrun, he simply replied: “…They can’t get away this time.”  You would be tempted to question the sanity of that answer.  You would if you were unfamiliar with Chesty and his ability to motivate Marines and inspire confidence in his men.

When we are faced with seemingly impossible odds in our lives, sometimes we forget about our leader and how God is able to remove us from the circumstances stacked against us.  The same God who rescued from a red-hot furnace, closed hungry lion’s mouths, caused city walls to fall flat, calmed raging storms, and brought the dead to life, is the very same God we serve today.

He is not taken by surprise by our circumstances, nor is he intimidated by them.  He looks us square in the eye and tells us: “They can’t get away this time.”  If we pay attention, He can lead us through our most dire difficulties into a place of safety.  If, because of His will to always do us good, He chooses not to bring us through those difficulties, His peace will surpass all understanding.

Using Your Gifts

June 20, 2016

I am getting ready to leave for High School Camp (no, I am not reliving my childhood – why would I want to do that?).  I have been blessed with certain skills (EMT) and I can use them to bless the camp during the summer – so I do.

You see you don’t have to have some huge Spiritual gift to be a blessing to other people.  Anything that you do well, can be used by God to show others about His love for them.  You need to purpose in your heart that is what you want to do.  Then pray – God...

Becoming Spiritually Healthy

June 13, 2016

I have lost a total of 22lbs since Bev and I changed the way we eat.  I feel great and have lots of energy.  It has been a terrific start on a long journey down to 200.  I know that eating well is only going to get me so far.  As a result of that, I am adding a workout routine as well (there are many apps for that!).  I am also finding that I have to change the way I think about almost everything.  I have to change my routine to include, when I eat, when I work out, which workout I am going t...

Congregational meeting, Sunday, June 19th

June 6, 2016

We have scheduled a congregational meeting for Sunday, June 19th after church.  We will start off with a pot luck lunch and then the Leadership Team and I will update everyone on what has been happening and what is supposed to happen with regard to the building repairs.

A friend of mine suggested that if we had any plans/desires to make any changes to the building that now would be a good time.  As a matter of fact, there are several things we have talked about doing and we will fill you in ...

Making Necessary Adjustments

May 23, 2016

As I am writing this, I am sitting at the gate at the Honolulu Airport waiting for my flight home.  I’ve had a good trip, gotten some sun, and saw people I have not seen for a long time.  It will still be good to get home.  I am reminded that Proverbs tell us that better to have friends close than family far away – and some of my family is very far away!  I value your friendship and encouragement.

Making Necessary Adjustments

If my head were water,

my eyes a fountain of tears,

I would...

The Detox

May 9, 2016

You no doubt, have heard by now of the detox that Bev and I are doing.  Frankly I don’t know what possessed to want to do this.  However, one week into the deal and I am glad I did.  Sure, I’ve had to eat some things no human should have to (Chia is a pet – not food), but on the whole it has not been as unpleasant as I thought it might be.  I have lost several pounds and I am not starving, I have a little more energy and I can tell I feel better.  In addition, I have taken the opportuni...

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

May 2, 2016

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?          Matthew 7:3 (ESV)

How often have you heard a single person say something like: “I’m just looking for the right person.”?  Usually my response is: “If you worked on being the ‘right person’, others would be looking for you.”

If I am reading Matthew 7:3 correctly, it would appear that being the “right person” is not limited to singles.  It would seem God’s ...

Prayer

April 20, 2016

I have several large “post its” in my office.  One of them is titled “Prayer” and it is the guide we use when we get together on Tuesday Nights.  It is pretty basic – just three steps: Worship, Pray, Listen.

Worship – acknowledge God for who He is and to remind us that His past actions are guarantees He will act on our best interests.

Pray – Talk to Him.  If we have a relationship with God, we need to communicate.  He tells us to bring our requests, desires and dreams to Him

How important is it that you believe God has placed you where you are?

April 11, 2016

I do not believe for a Nano-second that those of us who follow God are where we (or who we are for that matter) by accident.  We are here because He wants us to be here (where ever “here” happens to be).  It is not just where you live, or where you work, or where you go to school.  It is you, right “here”, right now reading this.  It is you later after the service eating at your favorite restaurant.  It is you tomorrow shopping, next week on vacation, etc.

Don’t take this too far. ...

Is it alright if I brag about a few people?

March 28, 2016

You know them, they are Darryl and Bonnie Boyd, Buddy Hills, Gary Johnson and Bev.  These folks have been partnering together as the Vision Team for over a year now.  Their goal was to discover what is unique about Greater Life Church and determine the vision that God has for us.  They have meet at least monthly for a year, but Darryl, Bonnie and I made regular monthly trips to Boise from January through July last year to attend meetings that would help us guide the rest of the Team through t...
